North Carolina Reading Recovery teacher, Gregory Brown, has a message he wants to share. As a shy adolescent farm boy, he always felt different and out-of-step with the world around him. Those feelings of self-doubt and alienation are now recorded for all students to examine in his new play, “When Pink Flamingos Feel Blue.” Written as a Choral Readers Theater piece, it was specifically designed for use in the whole classroom setting. The goals: to raise reading fluency while promoting positive self-esteem and unity among students. The script is available to print for free (along with supplemental activities/directions) at this website:

It can also be downloaded at TEACHERTUBE from the Activity support file.
“When Pink Flamingos Feel Blue” may be copied, reproduced, read/performed by any group of students/teachers in any educational setting. Gregory has enjoyed hearing from other teachers and students from around the globe!
